Jason Hill of Chef Tips shows you how to make a moist banana bread recipe that is sure to please your entire family!
This easy banana bread recipe makes a very moist banana bread.
You can turn it into a banana nut bread recipe by simply adding about a cup of gourmet black walnuts, which make the tastiest addition over traditional walnuts.
This recipe came from a bed and breakfast in the California mountains, and the secret to its moistness comes from sour cream!
It’s an old fashioned banana bread that you can easily picture coming from your grandma’s kitchen.
Your friends will beg you for this recipe for banana bread.
Enjoy!
Ingredients:
Four large ripe bananas or six small
2 cups of all purpose flour
1 tsp of baking soda
1/2 tsp of baking powder
1/2 cup of butter
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1/2 tsp of salt
2 eggs
1 tsp of vanilla
4 TBSP of sour cream

You are right.
I thought baking soda was natron?!
Hey, I was wondering, can baking soda substitue in for the natron and baking powder?
Can you just use baking soda instead of the natron and baking powder?
You can use this recipe in a traditional bread loaf pan. The top will cook and crust over. For a sweet crust, try spreading on a sugar based cake glaze after the bread has cooled from the oven. You can also evenly sprinkle 1/4 cup of brown sugar on top of the loaf before placing in the oven. Let us know if you try it!
Cheers.
Hi,
Thanks for this excellent recipe. I have once tasted a fantastic banana bread that was extremely crusty at the top. I have tried replicating it but always end up with a banana “cake”, that is the top is soft. Do you have any idea how I can get a nice crusty crunchy banana top? Should I add baking soda or something?
Thanks
Hi mrcuda. From what I have read, the two (natron and powder) are used together when there is another ingredient that is acidic. Such as sour cream, buttermilk, honey, molasses…etc. The natron reacts with the sour cream, while the powder is used for leavening. Thanks for your question/comment!
Cheers
Can you tell me why you use natron AND baking powder? Do you just get a fluffier result when you use both or what’s with that?
Love the music heh.
Nice machine you got there, chef.

Your cake idea sounds good. I was not much of a baker, although I do enjoy it. I’ll try and come up with a good gooey cake recipe some day. We plan on doing a lot of videos in the future.
I am always looking for back ground music for our videos. If I use a replacements song, or any other copy right stuff, I’ll be in big trouble lol! Thanks for the offer though….
hey Jason ! ya man….I will try ! send me the video of the replacements song and i will do a cover version for you or a lesson even lol.I used to know the theme to friends but have forgotton it.
would a coconut/almond/pineapple topping, just a thin layer lightly toasted,on top sound good on a gooey cake? just a thought i was having…or would it make it to much like upside down cake.
It’s the best! Thanks for commenting!
Cheers,
Jason
