my garbage is my garbage i still own it! This may sound absurd but PERSONAL stuff is in there and it is an INVASION OF MY PRIVACY! yes we throw away too much stuff but even supermarkets throw office docs and visa/amex receipts in THERE garbage that is why it is ILLEGAL. It is sad the amount we throw out… but is also sad when we have to lock our garbage. i believe in not waisting food but stay out of our garbage!

Wow, good job you found old butter in somebody else’s garbage can. Great find!(you know butter only costs a few bucks at the grocery store, and it won’t make you sick).

freegans dont go through PEOPLES garbage, they go through the garbage of SUPERMARKETS that throw away full sealed and perfectly edible food.

I’ve been dumpster diving everything since 2005 the most amazing thing was a gold watch from near 1830 worth a few thousand that I gave to the Quaker Peace house at Ashland Oregon

I’ve listed a bunch of freecycle(dot)org things as well a Giant gear as well as two ipods Th e ipods never made it to freecyclers though

Being a detrivore makes being a moral vegetarian kind of different as I can eat anything I find at a dumpster if I believe it was placed there as authentic trash

hey i live in minnesota… can you please give some ideas of which dumpsters to check out? like what stores? thanks!!!

  18. scarlejr on January 5th, 2010

Radio Shack, K-mart, BookStores (especially used), INDUSTRIAL PARKS

You reallly need to just try and hit EVERY shopping center and company in a 25 mile radius because you never know what you will find! do that a few times and you will learn the good ones, and you can focus on them! I’ll try and get a video of me diving and some stuff i’ve found. Best of luck!

    Anything but restaurants.

The only thing to worry about is having the store know what you are doing.

  21. RainJetSprinklers on January 20th, 2010

This is why at the grocery store I work at I either pee on all the food or stick hypodermic needles in the food that we throw away. Boss told us to. (no joke)
