    Great video!

    My cooking tip is:
If you have purchased veggies such as garlic, onion, bell pepper etc…chop and slice them when you bring them home from the grocer. I tend to go ahead and chop some and slice them and bag them into ziplock bags by 1/2 cup portions and place them in the freezer. This way if I need onions, bell peppers or etc…all I have to do is go to freezer and dump get a bag or more.

    One more tip:
    To save money:
If your recipe calls for strips of poultry , red meat or pork. Buy the boneless breast, pork loin or flank steak. Take it to the grocery butcher (EVERY GROCERY STORE HAS ONE) and get them to slice it to whatever thick/thiness you want. This way you are not paying EXTRA money for pre-sliced meat.

Wow. I don’t know where my other comment went, but I’ll try again. I love this cooking channel and was laughing at the intent way the doggie was looking in the video.

My tip is for beginner cooks to get a basic cookbook (Southern Living Cookbook and Betty Crocker) that gives clear recipes, pictures, instructions how food should look, and substitutes chart. Once the recipes are mastered, one can take the recipe up a notch by adding ingredients and techniques.

Oh this is a tip that I just did.
If you have citrus around the house after peeling, slicing or using it instead of tossing in trash — if u have a garbage disposal dump the used citrus in the disposal to help with any funky order with a sprinkle of baking soda.

That is so true. I just dispose limes in the disposal and it made my kitchen smell good.

I do that too! I was raised that way. Both my Mom & Nana clean as they cook. Can you imagine if you didn’t & had all of those dishes waiting for you to clean after you’re full?!!

Great tips Thanks ^^. I use lemon juice to get onion smell and spices off my fingers. I also use baking soda to clean my produce, and I don’t cook big when I am tired! That I found is very important for a great dish!!!

Awesome tips! My tip is to take notes on what you do so that you’ll remember next time. I tried a delicious recipe that called for 48 oz of pasta and that was wayyyyyy too much for us so I changed up the ingredients and wrote my changes down so I’d remember next time!

  18. TotallyTyra on March 2nd, 2010

Oh yeah! Reviewing the recipe is so important because one time I was going to cook something and I had to wait because I needed to marinate something for a long time. Definitely review your recipe!

Great tips!! you covered it all for me. My mom taught me how to cook then I took Home Ec classes and my HE teacher was a stickler about a clean kitchen. I don’t have any other tips but keep a stocked pantry with the basics. I found a basics list in a Martha stewart cookbook that helps me out. things like lemons, limes, spices, flour, sugar, beans, pasta are good to have on hand so you wont be always be running out to get them when trying a new recipe.

I’ve learned the importance of taking note of spices, sauces & kitchen tools I have. I do a simple inventory list, so I know what I have in stock & what I need to buy. It makes getting around the kitchen easier & saves time, IMO. & thx to Monique & all the others for their great tips!
